- Story Text: Pachuca, Mexico's oldest soccer team, won its fifth Mexican First Division championship on Sunday (May 27, 2007) after drawing 1-1 against America in the second leg of the final. On Friday Pachuca beat America 2-1 in the first leg so they won 3-2 on aggregate.
Cuauhtémoc Blanco scored the first goal of the game for America with a curling free kick shot in the 69th minute. Blanco is expected to play for the U.S. team, the Chicago Fire, next season.
Juan Carlos Cacho scored for Pachuca in the 83rd minute, equalising with America and handing Pachuca the win.
Fans flooded the stadium after the game to celebrate Pachuca's fourth championship in the past year.
Pachuca, the reigning champion of the South American Cup and the CONCACAF Champion's Cup, added the Clausura 2007 to their previous wins of the Invierno 99, Invierno 2001, Apertura 2003 and the Clausura 2006 tournaments.
For America it was the end of an exhausting series of games all of which they lost. The club flew back from Brazil last week, where they lost to Santos in the Libertadores Cup, to play Pachuca in Mexico City, then flew to Hidalgo region for the return leg. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
