- Story Text: Iran wants the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to establish a committee to review a U.N.-drafted deal aimed at easing international tension over Tehran's atomic activities, its foreign minister said on Monday (November 2).
Under a U.S.-backed plan, Iran would send most of its low-enriched uranium (LEU) abroad for further processing to turn it into more refined fuel for a Tehran research reactor.
"We have considered and we have some observations that we have informed the IAEA and I think they will decide to sit together the technical committee which have already two rounds of meetings, they may have some other meetings to consider the points which we have as our observations," Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters at a meeting of foreign ministers from eight developing countries.
The plan aims to reduce Iran's LEU stockpile in order to prevent the material from being turned into highly enriched uranium needed for a nuclear bomb. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
