Unknown assailants have carried out an arson attack against Iran's consulate general in Frankfurt early on Thursday (June 18), causing minor damage and no injuries.
According to German police, a passerby noticed a recycling paper container on fire around 4:15 a.m. (0215 GMT) outside the consulate's entrance whose access is open to anyone.
Police said in a written statement that the building's facade was damaged, adding that the assailants also unsuccessfully tried to break two glass showcases outside the building.
Police estimate the damage at "a few thousand euros".
While consulate staff were seen cleaning the facade, two German policemen were standing outside their van nearby.
According to Frankfurt police, "protection measures were and will be carried out in an adequate fashion."
