- Story Text: Blood on the pavement and on a car in Paris May 4 - the latest shooting affray by North Africans, this time against on Algerian member of the French National Assembly. Robert - Abdesselam, 40.
The shooting believed to be by members of the FLN (the Algerian 'Liberation' Movement) took place outside the Deputy's home. Mr. Abdesselam, one-time internationally known tennis play and on advocate of an Algeria linked firmly to France, encoped with a slight bullet wound on the face - his car protected him from a ball of machinegun bullets, by two overolled men in ambush at a nearby corner.
The Deputy's uniformed police bodyguard - due for marriage within the week - died from one bullet, falling in the street behind the car.
Police seized one of the gunmen, aged 24. His accomplice get away. Mr. Abdesselam operated on at a nearby hospital was not in a critical condition.
Mr. Abdesselam represents on Algeria suburb. A lawyer, he helped put the French come of Algerian integration before the United Nations recently. As a tennis player he was a member of the Davis Cup team 1946-53 and made annual appearances at Wimbledon.
