- Story Text: Colorado shooting rekindles gun control debate after gunman kills 12 in a midnight premiere of 'Batman' film in Denver Friday while there were still no clues as to the motive behind the shooting rampage.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, speaking on NBC television's "Meet the Press" program on Sunday (July 22), said there were still no clues as to the motive gunman who killed 12 and wounded 59 at Batman premiere in Colorado on Friday.
Hickenlooper described the accused shooter, James Holmes, as "a twisted, really delusional individual" who up to this point has not been cooperating with authorities.
Hickenlooper said the Aurora community and the state of Colorado are coping with the tragedy.
"The state is heartbroken, I think it was Hemingway who said 'the world break us all but afterward we are stronger in the broken places' and I think that's what we he heard in the hospitals yesterday, we went to at many of the hospitals yesterday and visited the families and the victims yesterday and there was already a buoyancy that there's already the resilience here, the people said we are not going to let this to define their life they are going to fight back," said Hickenlooper.
71 people were shot in Friday's rampage at the movie theater leaving 12 people dead and 59 injured. 24-year old Holmes was wearing extensive body armor and had three firearms when arrested by police on the scene within about a minute after the first distress calls to 911 were made. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
