- Story Text: Schools across France marked a minute of silence to remember the four victims at a Jewish school in Toulouse killed by a gunman in what investigators suspect may be the latest of a spate of racially-motivated killings.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy led the mourning in a central Paris school before addressing the small group of children in its courtyard.
"These children were three, six and eight years old. The murderer hounded a little girl. It's a serious matter. So serious that the whole republic is concerned. Your teachers, your families and you," Sarkozy said.
In Toulouse, a crowd gathered in front of the Capitolium, the southwestern city's town hall to pay their respects. Inside a large crowd stood immobile, their faces filled with grief under flag that had been tied up with a black sash in mourning.
At the Paris branch of the Jewish school that was attacked, about 100 students filled the courtyard to pay their final respects to the three children and one teacher who perished in the attack. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
