- Story Text: Egyptians gathered at polling station at the Fatma Anan school in Cairo on Wednesday (May 23) to vote for the first time in elections that are competitive, free and democratic.
"All the different people are standing together, the committees have separate lines and God willing all is going to go well," said Ahmed AbedelHameed from Cairo.
Some 50 million Egyptians registered to vote for a President of the Republic in the most populous Arab country that ousted Hosni Mubarak after he held that office for 30 years.
"I am here to elect, for the first time, a President of the Republic. A president that will be good and righteous and to make this country wake up," said Ahmed Azzam from also Cairo.
Any of the some dozen candidates who are running for president have a fair chance of winning the votes of the people and becoming the next president of Egypt. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
