- Story Text: Demolition began on Thursday (July 26) on the main site for the London 2012 Olympic Games as the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) took control of the land from the London Development Agency.
Since London was awarded the Games in 2005, 208 businesses and almost 500 residents have been relocated from the 500-acre site which will include a main stadium, swimming, cycling and hockey stadia, the media centrea and the athletes village.
The site is adjacent to the main transport hub in Stratford, East London.
With just five years and a day to go before the opening of the Games, this first phase of the project is on schedule.
D SEBASTIAN COE, CHAIRMAN OF THE LONDON OLYMPIC ORGANISING COMMITTEE - "This is a challenging project, this is a challenging site to develop, but what we do know today is that we are ahead of the game,"
enthused Lord Sebastian Coe.
