- Story Text: Australia's Olympic team revealed a new uniform for the opening ceremony at the London games on Thursday (May 3), a return to the country's traditional sporting colours of green and gold.
Triple Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Libby Trickett helped design the outfits and was among the models on the catwalk in Sydney, although she wont be taking part in the opening ceremony because it is scheduled to last for several hours and she is competing the following day.
Trickett missed out on an individual berth for London and although she has qualified for the 100 freestyle relay team her place is not yet confirmed.
"It's tough because I don't know necessarily that I'm going to race. I'm going to train as hard as I can to get myself in the best possible position to get on that relay team because I want to represent my country, I want to swim for Australia and hopefully do the best job that we can for the three other girls on the team," she said.
More than 400 athletes will travel to London and preparations are going well, according to Chef de Mission, Nick Green.
"We've got a strong team and we've got a team of some surprises, some individual absolutely talent (sic) but we've got some athletes who are really coming through at the moment in their preparation who I think are going to surprise a lot of people when they get to London," said Green, himself a former double gold medal winning Olympic rower.
Also modelling the uniform were canoeists Naomi Flood, Kynan Maley and Murray Stewart, basketball team members Lauren Jackson and Adam Gibson and rower Sarah Tait. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
