- Story Text: South African President Jacob Zuma bid the Olympic and Paralympic teams farewell and wished them luck on Thursday (July 12) ahead of the London games.
A team of 125 athletes (67 male and 58 female) will travel to London and they will be accompanied by 46 officials in each sport.
Khotso Mokoena was the only South African to muster a silver medal in Beijing four years ago, in the long jump.
With top athletes like former 800m champion Caster Semenya and double amputee Oscar Pistorius making the cut, South Africa is looking to improve its perfomance and collect more medals.
The women's soccer team qualified for the first time and will take a squad of 18 players and the men's and women's hockey sides will be represented. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
