- Story Text: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez wished the Venezuelan Olympic Team luck on Wednesday (July 11) as they prepared to make their way to London for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Venezuela's Olympic Team is made up of 69 athletes who will compete in 14 of the 38 disciplines at the London games.
During the ceremony at the presidential palace, Chavez passed the Venezuelan flag to Fabiola Ramos who will compete in her fifth Olympics representing the South American nation in table tennis after competing in Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008.
British ambassador to Venezuela, Catherine Nettleton, watched on as Ramos, who competed in her first games when she was 18-years-old, waived the Venezuelan flag.
Chavez encouraged the athletes telling them to go for glory in London.
"Aside from the number of medals you are going to win, we have a lot of faith and hope in you and the effort you are putting in in order to medal in London. But aside from that we are sure that our 69 athletes are going to shine at the 2012 Olympic Games."
