- Story Text: Olympic men's figure skating champion Yevgeny Plushenko returned to Russia on Friday (February 17) for several days before going back to Turin to perform in the Olympic exhibition gala on February 24.
Plushenko missed out on the gold medal at the last winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, taking the silver as runner-up to his rival adn fellow Russian, Alexei Yagudin.
Now that he has secured the Olympic gold medal, there is little in skating that Plushenko has not achieved.
"I am still deciding whether I will stay [in sport] or leave, I don't know yet whether I will continue to skate or will quit," he told reporters on his arrival in St Petersburg.
The skater had a shock as he was driven from Turin to Milan's Malpensa airport early on Friday. Plushenko, who was travelling with his trainer Alexei Mishin, was involved in a car crash on the motorway but was unhurt. Mishin received a slight injury to his shoulder.
"During this Olympics God was with us, it's true, " said Plushenko. "Because what's happened today, a road accident involving 30 cars, God has really saved us." ENDS, - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
