- Story Text: A blanket of unseasonal soggy snow turned Paris into a winter wonderland on Wednesday (December 8) as temperatures in the south of France were unusually warm with the thermometer expected to brush up against 20 degrees during the afternoon.
The snow descended upon the city this afternoon, covering well-known Parisian monuments like the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elysees as well as the giant ferris wheel traditionally set up for the Christmas holidays on the Place de la Concorde, in a white blanket.
But the sudden snowfall has also forced the closure of the Eiffel Tower, an iconic monument of Paris, and has impeded much of citywide public and private transportation.
"I think it's marvellous, having Paris under the snow. Paris is all white. It's magical. It's really, really nice. It's beautiful. Unfortunately it won't last as snow gets dirty fast. All that nice white snow. But it's a lovely view," said an unidentified passerby.
Paris has experienced unseasonal, below-zero temperatures for the last few weeks, but the weather is expected to normalise and temperatures to rise by Thursday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
