- Story Text: Germans were able to enjoy a short break from soaring temperatures on Thursday (July 15). But the cooler air came with some heavy lightning and strong winds, which caused damage mainly in Western parts of Germany. Uprooted trees were the main cause of the trouble, crushing several parked cars. Loose roof tiles added to the damage, head of the local fire brigade, Georg Binn, said, "In total about 200 incidents were caused by falling trees or roof tiles, the damage came with a warning. A weak tornado blew over Goch and caused a lot of damage."
"The sky darkened and the tornado approached. I was standing at the window and saw how a very big tree fell on three cars, one them ours. We were in great panic and called the fire brigade immediately", Goch resident Heidemarie Klug added.
Germany's Meteorological Office (DWD) said a cold front crossing over Germany caused the weather change, but not for long. The weather forecast for the coming weekend predicts more heat to come, along with strong winds. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
