- Story Text: Strong wind wrecked two small pilot training planes parked on the tarmac of Beirut airport on Saturday (December 11) as heavy rains and thunderstorms were forecast to continue over the weekend.
The 100 km per hour wind pushed the planes on the runway causing material damage only, the state-owned Lebanese National News Agency said. Some flights to and from Beirut airport were delayed but there were no cancellations.
Lebanon had a late winter this year with forest fires and high temperatures destroying large areas of forest just last weekend. Temperatures are expected to vary between 9 and 22 celsius on the coast and between 1 and 12 degrees in the mountains over the weekend.
Snow fall is expected begin falling at altitudes of 1200 m above sea level, according to forecasts. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
