- Story Text: Parisians soaked up unseasonal Autumn sun on Monday (October 3) as a mass of warm air from Spain continued to heat much of northwestern Europe, keeping temperatures near their record levels of 28 degrees celsius, which has made the start of this month one of the hottest on record.
Parks and riverbanks drew unseasonal crowds as people flocked to catch the last rays of sunshine before a forecast cooling later this week.
Ice cream stands, park sprinklers, open air sightseeing buses and boats were all pressed into service to take advantage of the heatwave, which set a peak of 28.8 degrees celsius at the weekend according to French weather agency Meteo France.
For ordinary residents of the city, it was a chance to relax before the harshness of the winter.
"We had some free time and as the weather is so nice, we thought we'd make the most of it. It's great. We can't complain, on top of the fact summer was rubbish," said one Parisian, Saif.
Others took advantage of the weather to enjoy a bite to eat by the river.
"We are really privileged. I mean, this is rare. It's rare. This is maybe the first time," said one Parisian, Anne.
"Yes. We take... Every day we take the pleasure in these moments. Every day brings its own pleasures," added her picnic partner, Pierre. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
