- Story Text: Ten days after the first wave of cold snap hit Romania, renewed snowfall in capital Bucharest posed fresh problems for emergency services on Sunday (February 5).
Traffic was disrupted in several places. The A2 motorway -- the longer of the country's only two motorways -- was closed. It connects Bucharest to Constanta port on the Black Sea.
Another 19 national and more than 40 regional roads were shut off.
Railway authorities said more than 50 trains were cancelled. They did not give further details.
A further four people died in the past 24 hours, bringing the total toll to 34.
More than 90 percent of the surface of the Danube was frozen in Romania over stopping ships sailing to the Black Sea.
Several icebreaker ships were headed to Black Sea ports with food supplies.
"Ship Mamaia 2 will leave with people and food on board towards Sulina (port on Black Sea) and villages around, together with other ships which will brake the ice in front of us," commander of the Mamaia 2, Valentin Cretu said, as workers loaded the vessel with food.
Six ships were blocked in ice on Danube, but Black Sea ports were operational.
The weather office said more snow was expected on Monday (February 6). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
