- Story Text: There was a festive mood in the streets of Glasgow on Saturday (November 17) ahead of the crucial Euro 2008 qualifier which has been labelled as one of biggest games in Scotland's football history.
Italy can reach the Euro 2008 finals if they win, although a draw will suffice if they go on to defeat Group B's bottom team, the Faroe Islands, at home on Wednesday (November 21).
Italian fans were happily mingling with their local Scots opponents and one of them was confident the current world champions would finish the Italian job with ease.
"I think that Italia win 3-0, for Italy - Gillardino, Camoranesi, Toni," he said convinced that Milan striker Alberto Gillardino, Juventus midifielder Mauro Camoranesi and Bayern's attacker Luca Toni would secure the three points.
Victory for the Scots would seal qualification to their first major championship since the 1998 World Cup. Scotland have won all their home games so far and drew 1-1 against Italy in their last match at Hampden Park, in 2005.
One Scottish fan was relieved that when the match kicks off at the 1700gmt kickoff at Hampden Park, their wait for the great moment in his football life will finally over.
"Forever mate, forever. This has been the biggest football game I am going to ever see," he said.
The Italians are one point behind Scotland and two behind group leaders France, so defeat to the Scots would mean they would have to beat the Faroes and hope Ukraine beat France at home on the same night. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
