- Story Text: Taking a cue from the "Astonishing X-Men," Midtown Comics hosted its first ever same sex wedding on Wednesday (June 20).
"We are here to celebrate the wedding of Jason and Scott who are going to get married in Midtown comics today and part to also celebrate the release of 'Astonishing X-Men' number 51 from Marvel comics," explained Thor Parker, the social marketing and events director for the New York comic book store.
After searching the U.S. for a comic crazed couple, the store selected Scott Everheart and Jason Welker, from Columbus, Ohio.
"It's a bonus because we love comics, we're both geeks, so we thought this was a cheeky way to do it," said Everheart.
"One of our first dates was him taking me to a comic book store, so that's why this also seemed kind of perfect, cause that was right at the start of our relationship. So this is kind of a nice full circle - and now I'm a total comic dork," added Welker.
The wedding of comic book characters Northstar and Kyle is the first same-sex ceremony in the superhero world.
Northstar and Kyle have been a couple since 2009, but Marvel is not promising the pair will live happily ever after. In fact, Marvel asks in its wedding announcement: "Will their path to wedded matrimony in New York City be smooth or are there hidden dangers around the corner?"
But Welker and Everheart are prepared to take their love to the end of time.
"I'm excited, I mean it's definitely a new journey, together," said Everheart.
"It feels right. Way better than just dating," added Welker.
