- Story Text: One of Germany's main breweries is working overtime to quench the thirst of hundreds of thousands of soccer fans watching World Cup games as temperatures reached close to 30 degrees Celsius over the past few days in most areas of the country. Employees at Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei brewery are working seven days a week in three shifts, according to master brewer Hubertus Nottscheid. "Three weeks of beautiful weather in June, the many visitors and the great atmosphere during the World Cup are all factors that add up" to the high demand for beer, Nottscheid said. "We are reaching our output limits as well as those of our employees." Industry groups say they are on track to meet their sales goal targets for the month-long tournament and GermòÖ.¸½ââ\ó5.VÖÖ4µâð{~i buoyant mood. "A real soccer fan from Sweden or England is certainly capable of drinking four to five litres of beer and since 100,000 English are expected in Gelsenkirchen over the weekend you can figure out how much beer we're delivering there," Nottscheid said ahead of Saturday's game. The Cup probably helped lift the closely-watched Ifo institute's gauge of German business confidence to a 15-year high in June, according to economists. The Ifo data showed the mood among retailers had improved markedly. The tournament may also have contributed to a bigger than expected decline in unemployment in June, although the jury is out on whether the improvement will be long-lasting.
