STORY:The father of a passenger on board missing flight MH370 waited anxiously to hear news of his son on Thursday (March 20), after Australia said it was investigating two objects spotted floating in the southern Indian Ocean.
Selamat Omar is the father of Mohd Kahirul Amri, a flight engineer who went missing with 238 other people when the Malaysian jetliner disappeared from air traffic control screens early on March 8.
Australian officials said the objects were spotted by satellite in one of the remotest parts of the globe, around 2,500 km (1,500 miles) southwest of Perth in the vast oceans between Australia, southern Africa and Antarctica
The larger of the objects measured up to 24 metres (79 ft), long and appeared to be floating on water several thousand metres deep, they said.
"All the information we've been getting is fine, but now we really need the proof whether it is the plane or not. Even Malaysian Airlines can't tell us. We need confirmation from the Australian government," Omar said.
He said he still hopes to find his son alive.
"As a father, I still have to believe all the MH370 passengers are alive and well. I hope they're in good health," Omar added.
No confirmed wreckage from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has been found since it vanished off Malaysia's east coast, less than an hour after taking off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
