  • Story Text: Los Angeles police arrested nine teenage students on Friday (March 13) in connection with sexual assaults and unlawful sex acts against two young people, and investigators are seeking five more suspects, a police official said.
    All the suspects are between the ages of 14 and 17 and their names will not be released because they are minors, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Commander Andrew Smith told a news conference.
    "This morning, Los Angeles Police Department detectives in conjunction with LA School police went to Venice High School and made a series of arrests. A total of eight students are now in custody. An additional student was taken in custody off campus so we have nine of the 14 are in custody," Smith said.
    The allegations of sexual assault are centered on students at Venice High School.
    Los Angeles School Police Chief Steven Zipperman said that student safety is their number one concern.
    "Any type of issues pertaining to sexual misconduct on any of our campuses will not be tolerated. It will be dealt with seriously," Zipperman said.
    Smith urged anyone with more information on the case to come forward.
