- Story Text: A woman who was paid for sex by National Football League Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor filed a federal lawsuit on Monday (November 28), accusing Taylor of violating a federal child sex trafficking law.
Christina Fierro's celebrity attorney, Gloria Allred, says this may be the first of its kind lawsuit, where the buyer of prostitution- in this case Taylor- is sued under the federal statute.
Taylor admitted last January that he paid Fierro, who was 16 at the time, 300 dollars (USD) for sex at a Holiday Inn in Montebello, New York. He was sentenced to six years probation and had to register as a sex offender. Taylor also agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in their ongoing probe into sex trafficking in the New York area. He had initially faced felony charges.
Fierro says she never wanted to have sex with Taylor and denied being a prostitute. "I am very upset about what Mr. Taylor did to me," she said.
" I feel as though he should be accountable for his crimes and misconduct toward me. I have never had sex for money and I will never forget what happened with Mr. Taylor in that room that night. I hope my story has an impact on young girls. No girl deserves to be taken advantage of and I hope to be the voice of girls and young women out there who have been sexually exploited as a result of sex trafficking," added Fierro.
In announcing the lawsuit, Allred said Fierro was driven to Taylor's hotel room by Rasheed Davis, who later pled guilty to sex trafficking and was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Allred said, "Inside the room was Lawrence Taylor, former Hall of Fame football star, whom Christina did not recognize. She told Mr. Taylor that she had never been paid for sex before and that she didn't want to do it. Christina was crying and tears were running down her face. Although Christina alleges that she repeatedly tried to push Taylor off of her, Taylor continued until, according to the allegations in Christina's lawsuit, he was able to force himself inside of her."
An attorney for Taylor, Arthur Aidala, released a statement, in which he says Allred is a publicity-seeker, who's complaint "reads like a fairytale of what she would like the facts to be as opposed to the truth." Aidala's statement says Taylor has already offered Fierro help in "getting her life back on track."
The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, to be decided at trial if the charges are proven.
Fierro is now working at a Target store.
Taylor played for the New York Giants from 1981 to 1993. An All-Pro in each of his first nine seasons, Taylor had a checkered history on and off the field. He was suspended by the NFL several times for drug use and following his retirement was arrested in 1996 for trying to buy cocaine from undercover officers. Taylor claims to now be free of drugs. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
