- Story Text: In South Africa, a four-man delegation from the governing body of tennis, the International Lawn Tennis Federation, is holding an investigation to find out whether there is race discrimination in the sport there.
SYNOPSIS: Their arrival coincided with the selection on Monday (13 February) of a black player for the South African Davis Cup squad. The President of the South African Tennis Union, Judge Blen Franklin, denied this was a window-dressing operation to impress the investigators.
The visiting delegation included Mr Leslie Ashenheim, on the left, President of the Jamaican Tennis Federation and his Austrian counterpart, Dr Theodore Zeh. They went to a black tennis club, in East rand, South of Johannesburg to talk to local tennis officials.
The two other members of the delegation are Mr David Gray, the Federation Secretary and its President, Monsieur Philippe Chatrier. He is to present a report on their findings in April, and gave this interview.
