- Story Text: The PSA Group's premium brand DS presented a new top-of-the-line SUV at a news conference in Paris on Tuesday (February 28).
The DS7 Crossback, manufactured in Mulhouse in eastern France and in China, will be sold commercially starting July.
It represents the second generation of DS cars after the first DS car line was launched in 2010 as a premium subsidiary of the Citroen brand, property of French automobile group PSA.
"We've been waiting for this car for a very long time and here it is. It is a synthesis of what we consider French luxury," said Ivo Groen, vice president for DS design programs.
The DS7 Crossback is envisioned as a strong supplement to a restricted product line composed only of the small DS3, the compact DS4 and the presidential DS5. In addition, two models were created to target Chinese consumers.
The newest DS offer also aims to curb the current decrease in the brand's global sales, which dropped last year by 16%, the fourth consecutive year in decline.
The marketing of the new product revolves around Parisian innovation, French know-how, advanced technology and performance.
"It's definitely a luxury car but it remains an SUV, which is made to be used," Groen said.
The design team boasts of the DS7's advanced technology and design, safety enhancement and driving comfort, saying it paved the way for an autonomous car.
"It is really a palace with incredible comfort," Groen added. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
