- Story Text: Cuban musician Pablo Milanes launches his latest album with a performance in Havana.
Cuban musician Pablo Milanes performed in Havana on Wednesday (December 18) where he launched his latest album, "Renacimiento".
The two-time Grammy award winner is one of communist-ruled Cuba's best known musicians and is part of a privileged artistic elite on the Caribbean island who have long been allowed by authorities to freely travel and perform abroad, including past shows in Miami.
Milanes performed in the intimate settings of the El Habana Caf�in the Cohiba Hotel where he sang many of his classic tunes including, "Yolanda" as well as "Amor de Oto�" from the new album.
The new album includes some retooled older songs with influences from several musical styles from Latin America and the United States.
Among the audience was Omara Portuondo of Cuba's Buena Vista Social Club.
"I love it all, all of it. Fascinating. While we all know it, he gets more precious every day," she said.
"I found it to be just so beautiful. You could just tell by looking at the audience how much they loved him and it was so beautiful to listen to this, so thank you," a U.S. tourist, identified only as John, said.
