- Story Text: Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson is hoping some of his young players can make a mark during the club's pre-season tour of South Africa.
United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has spent the best part of the last three seasons sidelined with injury, scored twice to spur the side to a 4-0 win over Orlando Pirates on Saturday (July 15).
Ferguson was happy with Solskjaer's recover but is hoping to see encouraging signs from his touring party.
Speaking on Monday (July 17) ahead of Tuesday's game against the Kiazer Chiefs in Cape Town, Ferguson said: "Tomorrow we have to show a little bit better in terms of team play, rhythm and tempo and we know it's going to be a more difficult game. Kaizer Cheifs are reportedly better than (previous oppenents) Orlando Pirates, so we expect a really good game.
"Hopefully our young players can rise to it and show a bit of development, which was one of the main reasons for taking young players on tours like this that you hope that one or two of those young players break through and are ready for your first team."
United will stay in Cape Town for another match on Saturday against the winner of a match between the Pirates and the Chiefs and then return to Britain for a series of friendlies leading up the the start of their Premiership season on August 20 at home against Fulham.
Chief's coach Ernst Middendorp said he was happy with his team's preparations. The South African Premiership season starts on August 27. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
