- Story Text: Bayern Munich delights fans as the team progresses into the Champions' League semi finals.
Bayern Munich fans erupted in joy at the end of a tense 96 minutes played at Old Trafford, as their side's 2-3 loss to Manchester United still ensured the Germans a place in the
semi-finals of the European Champions League.
A poor first half for Bayern Munich was more than compensated for as Arjen Robben scored a sensational goal that sent United packing from the competition It was a result that
even the most hardcore fans had almost given up on.
"After the third goal it was just clear that everything was over. The only thing left to do was to leave honourably," said a relieved Bayern Munich supporter, Elmar Thalhammer.
"And then just before half time you score this follow-up goal that kind of came from nothing and suddenly the team is turned round.
"And the way FC Bayern played in the second half, it was a totally different team. It was amazing that these were the same players."
United were leading 3-0 shortly before half time when Bayern's Ivica Olic pulled a goal back.
The second half started badly for the hosts when Rafael was sent off having received a second yellow card for a foul on Franck Ribery.
And then up step Arjen Robben, whose strike gave Bayern their ticket to the semi-finals against France's Olympic Lyon on the away goal rule.
"The last goal was world class. I couldn't have done it better myself on the xbox," gushed another fan.
"We have to hope that they can pull out the stops and make it into the finals, and the final is a thing unto itself," Jan Becker told Reuters TV.
