- Story Text: Manchester United manager David Moyes on Sunday (July 28) was unsure whether the club would make another bid for Cesc Fabregas but he did expect to make additions to his squad before the transfer window closes in early September.
Speaking in Hong Kong ahead of a pre-season fixture against local side Kitchee, Moyes who took over when Alex Ferguson retired at the end of last season, gave little away in terms of updates on transfer targets, particularly the attempt to wrestle Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas away from the Nou Camp.
"I couldn't tell you at the moment, I couldn't tell you if there will be another bid. Obviously we'll take stock of it and consider what we're going to do next," Moyes told reporters.
Barcelona's new manager, Gerardo Martino, said on Friday (July 26) that the 26-year-old Fabregas was not for sale.
But Moyes was not worried and expected to strengthen his squad at some stage before the transfer window shuts.
"We hoped we will do but what we've got here is a really good squad of players already so you mustn't forget about the quality what's already here at Manchester United," Moyes said.
"But undoubtedly we're hoping to add to it and I'm quite confident we will do, certainly before the window shuts."
Meanwhile Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton hopes want-a-away striker Wayne Rooney remains at Old Trafford.
Speaking at a Laureus organised event in Hong Kong, Charlton wants to see Rooney break his goal scoring record but only in United colours.
"I don't like losing really, really good players and he's a really great player," Charlton said.
"I was hoping one day, you know, that he might score as many goals as I had. And that would be really nice if he was at our club. And I'm still thinking that way anyway."
Charlton also offered encouragement for new manager Moyes, trying to make his way after the long and highly successful reign of Ferguson.
"How could you replace Alex Ferguson? It's unthinkable, really," Charlton said.
"But I really do believe, after I've been watching David Moyes for a while, I really do believe that he's going to have a happier time than a lot of people give him credit for." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
