- Story Text: Hundreds of people packed into the historic Abbey Road recording studios in north-west London on Saturday (November 30) to see former Take That star Mark Owen performing live.
More than 500 fans flocked to the recording home of the Beatles to see Owen's debut as a solo artist. It was also the first live performance at the studios since the 1960s.
Paramedics were on stand-by outside as fans arrived from clubs around Britain.
Owen is currently riding high in the charts with the single Child, and has also hit the top spot in Spain and Australia. His new album "Green Man" was released by RCA Records on Monday (December 2) after months of work at the Abbey Road studios. The album, produced by John Leckie and Craig Leon, has already earned critical acclaim for its 90s "guitar pop" feel.
The 45-minute live concert was recorded to provide B side tracks for his next single Clementine, due to be released in February. The performance included a Beatles' tribute -- All You Need is Love -- the song they recorded live at the Abbey Road Studios three decades ago.
Afterwards, Owen said it seemed a long time since he'd performed with Take That but he'd felt comfortable in front of an audience.
"They were great," he said.
Owen is continuing to rehearse with his new band in anticipation of a tour, starting next May.
Take That, whose split last April sparked hysteria among teen fans, were one of the most successful pop groups of the 1990s. Mark Owen proved one of the more popular members of the band, receiving more than 60 percent of their fan mail.
Owen describes his debut single "Child" as a bridge between where Take That left off and where he goes with the rest of the album. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
