- Story Text: Moby, best known for the musical score on the latest James Bond film,"Tomorrow Never Dies" is already confronting his next mission.
The enigmatic New York musician is currently working on a new album, to be released next year...and a single, "Honey" out in August.
Moby has already started working on his next album due to be released early next year. The thirty year old musician is seemingly inexhaustible. And his talents can be described as ambidexterous.
Unlike most artists who claim that their ultimate challenge is to branch out into movie scoring, Moby literally fell into writing music for films.
His work has always displayed a cinematic quality and before long he was juggling offers from Hollywood to compose new tracks for such films as "Tomorrow Never Dies", "Heat", "Scream" and the "Fifth Element".
Born Richard Hall, he is one of the most famous descendants of Herman Melville, writer of the literary classic Moby Dick. And that's where he got his name, Moby.He says when his parents saw him as a baby, they couldn't imagine "this white amorphous blob" with such a grownup name and so they nicknamed him Moby.
Moby's musical background has been wide-ranging, from punk to New Wave, Hip Hop and early Electro.
In 1993 he signed to Mute, soon afterwards the top thirty hit single "Feeling So Real" was released.
But the real thrill for Moby is playing live in front of an audience of thousands.
"God Moving Over The Face of Waters", the single that so moved Moby, is also available along with the rest of his movie scores on his last Album "I Like to Score".The album features 12 tracks of Moby's film music, old and new.It showcases his diverse range of musical tastes and influences.
And as for the film "Heat" with Al Pachino and Robert De Niro -- it was received well, especially the film score.
After that it was an easy run for Moby to start writing the most coveted of film scores, a re-mixed Moby-version of the James Bond theme.
It was a huge success, resulting in a top ten hit in the U-K.
But Moby says what he finds most exciting is the life the music takes on after it's released into the world.
Moby has never stuck to one particular brand of music.
"Honey" is another musical departure for him, it's more hip hop than dance music or punk. The vocals were recorded in the deep South of America in the 1930s by the folk historian, Alan Lomac."Honey" also has mixes created by Rollo & Sister Bliss, Westbam and Hardy Hard, Aphrodite and Micky Finn...and of course the man himself, Moby. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
