  • Story Text: Nick Hucknall is a humbled man.The tousle-haired crooner from northern England notorious for his sex-drugs-and-rock-n-roll lifestyle had a bad year.

    Hence Simply Red's new album "Blue", a soulful collection of lovelorn ballads.

    Hucknall, 38, has long been a favourite target for Britain's tabloid press, whose papers teem with stories of his womanising and drinking and late-night exploits.

    "Last year was a difficult year, a very blue year," he admits."I made a lot of changes...split up a long term relationship...Diana dies, Mother Theresa dies, the whole world is blue." "Even though I think in some respects it's a mellow and almost melancholy album, it still takes you through the other end, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel." "You've got to keep moving, music moves and changes and if you want to stay relevant you've got to enjoy it and secondly you have to be in it, involved." "This album has been finished three times.We've gone back and said we can make it better.We've had three album parties at my house and now it's finally done, it's a great relief." Simply Red's album "Blue" is released on May 18.The new single "Say You Love Me" came out on May 4.
