- Story Text: The Edinburgh Festival is best known for avant-garde
theatre and comedy. But now musicians are also taking to the
stage as part of the world's biggest arts festival.
The Flux Music Fesival is now in its second year, and
provides a platform for experimental, leftfield musicians
that has previously been absent from the Festival
Festival co-director Alex Poots says for music has been
excluded from the world's biggest arts festival for too
long, and many artists were keen to perform - the Flux
festival has attracted an eclectic blend of atlernative
musicians.
The Flux Festival opened with the unique music of New
York performer Ben Neill on Friday (August 14).His unusual
brand of jazz fusion sees him welcomed into venues from
smoky jazz bars to dance clubs.
Although his avant-garde style fits well into the Flux
Festival, it requires a very special instrument. His
signature 'mutantrumpet' has been in development since the
mid-1980's.There are only two in the world and only he
knows how to play them. But it's not just a musical
experiment - it is also an attempt to redefine the nature of
interactive audio-visual performance. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
