  • Story Text: General Tikka Khan, Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army, awarded flying brevets and diplomas to young pilots from the United Arab Emirates at a graduation ceremony at Dhamial Air Base, near Rawalpindi, on Saturday (15 February).

    The U.A.E. pilots were part of a large contingent of graduating officers, and in his address General Tikka Khan said: "It is gratifying to note that the Army Aviation School has played and is continuing to play a significant role in the training of fixed and rotary wing pilots for meeting the ever-increasing demands of not only the Pakistan Army but also other sister services - i.e. the Pakistan Air Force and the Pakistan Navy."
    Apart from training programme for their own countrymen, Pakistan aviation schools have played an increasingly important international role during the past few years. They helped initiate Malta Airways and have trained pilots and sent advisors to Jordan, Syria and Libya.

    After the graduation ceremonies a helicopter squadron gave a fly-past and demonstration of manoeuvres and parachuting techniques.
