  • Story Text: Leaders of the six major non-communist industrial nations tackled trade and monetary problems on Sunday (16 November) as they resume their economic summit meeting at Rambouillet, just outside Paris, on an optimistic note.

    The leaders of the six (United States, Britain, France, West Germany, Italy and Japan) began their second round of talks after their finance ministers met separately to review the results of the opening session of the summit which dealt with recession and inflation.

    The second session started half an hour behind schedule because U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and British Foreign Secretary James Callaghan held private breakfast talks at the British Embassy in Paris and were late in arriving at Rambouillet Castle.

    U.S. President Ford went to church with French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing and Italian Premier Aldo Moro before the six leaders resumed their talks.

    The three leaders joined 25 villagers at the church in nearby Poigny la Foret. The small chapel was jammed with security men.

    The priest, Father Pierre Thesard, said a prayer for all the peoples of earth, for their national leaders and for the success of the summit meeting.

    The flags of the six summit nations were hung inside the church but West German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, British Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Japanese Premier Takeo Miki did not attend.

    Mr. Ford joined the French and Italian leaders, both catholics, although he a protestant.
