  • Story Text: "Speed Show '75" - the 12th International Racing Car Show - opened at London's Olympia on Wednesday (1 January 1975).

    It brings together under one roof cars from all the different motor-racing "Formulas", race and rally-modified production cars, dragsters, a Go-kart and even winners from the worlds of motor-cycling and power boating. Almost everything on wheels, in fact, except run-of-the-mill road cars.

    But there is a touch of irony in this year's show. Two exhibits, the Matra sports racing car and Aston Martin are going out of production. Matra are withdrawing from sports car racing, despite enormous success in 1973 and 1974. Aston Martin have closed down completely, because of financial difficulties and it seems unlikely at the moment that this classic British sports car will ever be produced again.

    The emphasis of "Speed Show '75" also lies in the field of low-cost racing and fuel economy. A wide range of speed and economy accessories are on show, together with racing cars that can be purchased for less than the price of a good road car.
