A dress worn by the film star Marilyn Monroe was sold for around 35,000 U.S. dollars - nearly three times the amount it was expected to fetch, and a shirt worn by another legendary actor John Wayne was sold for around 4,000 U.S. dollars at an auction in London on May 5. Monroe's black satin dress was among 108 items of film memorabilia sold at Christie's the auctioneers.
A model displayes Marilyn Monroe's dress, which the late actress wore in one of her most successful films. 'Some Like It Hot'.
The auction included costumes worn by other famous artists during films made in Hollywood. They included Buster Keaton's swimming vest. Fred Astaire's autographed boater, and props used by Peter Sellers in 'The Pink Panther'. Most of the relics came from a private film museum in Warwick, England. The museum owners obtained the memorabilia from film studios, private collectors and auctions.
