    Pam Shriver's four-year dominance of the Dow Classic Women's Tournament at Edgbaston, United Kingdom, was brought to an end by West German Claudia Khode-Kilsch's 6-1 6-2 victory in the final on 12th June.

    The world number three was overwhelmed by some brilliantly controlled tennis and a difficult swirling wind. Kohde-Kilsch was able to break the American's normally powerful game almost at will. Shriver's only service game in the first set was won with a fortunate shot which crept over the net cord. The GBP15,000 first prize, which was Khode-Kilsch's first tournament success for three years, has put the West German in good heart for the Eastbourne Tournament which begins on 13th June.
