Denmark's Erik Gundersen is hoping to win his third successive world speedway championship after an impressive performance at the intercontinental final at the Odsal Stadium in Bradford, England on July, Gundersen won his five races and achieved a maximum 15 points, scoring ahead of compatriots Hans Nielsen with 14 points and Tommy Knudsen with 13.The decisive race was the 11th, with Gundersen narrowly beating Nielsen in an exciting finish.Nielsen has been runner-up to Gundersen in the last two world championships and its expected to be his main challenger in the world final in Katowice, Poland on August 30.Among the 11 riders who qualified for the world final was Jimmy Nilsen of Sweden, who at the age of 19, was the youngest rider to compete.England's Neil Evitts, the British champion, finished fourth on his home track, but his compatriot and Commonwealth champion Jeremy Doncaster, failed to qualify.
