- Story Text: Several hundred supporters of the breakaway state of Biafra marched on the United States embassy in London today. They wanted to show the United States that they approved of its attitude towards the Nigerian conflict.
The marchers assembled at London's famed Hyde Park Corner and marched to the embassy in Grosvenor Square, less than a mile away.
On the way they sang songs which included the Biafran rallying song -- "We are Biafrans fighting for our freedom". They carried banners and at the embassy some of the demonstrators filed their way past the police guards to deliver the letter of thanks.
It was a peaceful demonstration and after delivering their letter the Biafrans -- from the secessionist state that was formerly Eastern Nigeria -- returned to Hyde Park for a rally.
