- Story Text: The United Arab Emirates, an oil-rich group of seven Arabian Gulf emirates, is exploring the possibility of entering into economic ties with Pakistan.
A delegation from the U.A.E. headed by Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister, Mana Saeed AI Otaiba, visited the Pakistani capital of Islamabad for two days of talks on Sunday and Monday (22 and 23 June). Their hosts were Mr. Rafi Raza, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Production, Industries and Town Planning, and Mr. Yousuf Khattak, Minister for Fuel, Power and Natural Resources.
Pakistan is interested in engaging the interest of the U.A.E., one of the wealthiest and fastest developing areas of the world. Grouped around Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the most prosperous of the emirates, the U.A.E. has some 3,000 million dollars (1,250 million pounds sterling) a year in oil revenues and now provides more aid per capita than any other country in the world.
