  • Story Text: Ten cadets from Libya and the United Arab Emirates received their flight wings at Risalpur, in Pakistan on Saturday (26 June). They had been undergoing training at the Pakistan Air Force Academy.

    SYNOPSIS: It was the fifteenth such ceremony since 1947. Since then, young men from the Middle East, Africa and Asia have been receiving basic pilot training under a foreign course scheme.

    At this parade there were five cadets each from Libya and the United Arab Emirates. They were given their wings by the reviewing officer, the North West Frontier Province's Governor, Major General Nasir Ullah Khan Babar. He said a flying career was associated with the sacred task of defending the mother land and that it rises above worldly considerations.

    Risalpur began as a flying training school in 1947. Twenty years alter it was promoted to an Academy. It provides training in flying, academics and leadership. The subjects taught cover a wide range including electronics, military history and English.

    On Saturday there was a fly past of 20 T-37 aircraft. The military personnel also bade farewell to the Harvard aircraft which had been used by the Academy for about 30 years.
