- Story Text: The United Nations Peace Envoy, Dr. Gunnar Jarring, made an unexpected trip to the Jordanian capital, Amma, on Wednesday, (23 February).
During a stay of seven hours in the city, Dr. Jarring had an audience with King Hussein and had talks with Jordanian Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmed Al-Lawzi and the Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdullah Salah.
No details of the talks have been disclosed, but both Dr. Jarring and Mr. Salah described them as "useful".
SYNOPSIS: Flying in from Cyprus on Wednesday--a "plane bringing the United Nations Peace Envoy, Dr. Jarring, to Jordan. The trip was quite unexpected--and was the first Dr. Jarring has made to the Jordanian capital for more than twelve months. Sender foreign affairs department officials greeted Dr. Jarring--and quickly whisked him away for a meeting with King Hussein--then to talks with both the Jordanian Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmed Al-Lawzi, and his Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdulleh Salah. Afterwards both Dr. Jarring and his hosts agreed the talks were useful. But were they constructive? Said Dr. Jarring--"all my talks are constructive."
