- Story Text: The second meeting of a joint commission designed to strengthen relations between India and the United Arab Emirates took place in Delhi, India on Thursday (22 April).
The meeting was to review the progress of implementation of proposals agreed to at the first meeting and to give further impetus to the development of economic and technical co-operation.
The first meeting was held last November in Abu Dhabi, during which proposals in the fields of petro-chemicals, industry, commerce, technical and cultural co-operation were discussed.
India has offered technological expertise in a number of fields to further the UAE's plans for rapid economic development.
The commission was constituted on 17 May, 1974.
At this week's meeting the ten-member UAE delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Rashid Abdullah. It also met India's Petroleum Minister, Mr. K.D.Malaviya, and visited Indian petro-chemical installations.
SYNOPSIS: The Indian Foreing Ministry in Delhi, where a joint India and United Arab Emirates commission meeting took place on Thursday. The commission is designed to strengthen co-operation and relations between the two countries and it was the second time it had met. It was constituted in May, 1974 and held its first meeting in November last year. Then, proposals in the petro-chemical, industrial, commercial, technical and cultural fields were discussed. This meeting was to investigate the progress of the proposals implemented at the first meeting.
The ten-member delegation later visited India's Minister for Petroleum, Mr. K.D. Malaviya. The group is to visit several of India's Petro-chemical complexes during its visit.
India is helping the UAE in implementing the Emirate's plans for rapid economic development. Her technological expertise is being used in numerous fields. Since the commission was established, the economic and technical co-operation between the two countries has grown.
