- Story Text: Continuing his rounds of private talks with Foreign Ministers attending the United Nations General Assembly. West German Foreign Minister Walter Scheel yesterday (Friday 6 Oct.) met with Deputy Foreign Minister Chiao Kuan-Hua of The People's Republic of China.
The meeting took place in the United Nations building shortly after Herr Scheel visited the West German observer mission at the U.N. West Germany does not belong to the international body and, although Secretary General Kurt Waldheim has expressed the wish that both East and West Germany be admitted soon, Herr Scheel has indicated that his country is in no hurry to do so - as they do not wish entry to the U.N. to become an issue in the forthcoming Federal elections in West Germany.
No statement was given on the content of the talks between the Chinese and German statesmen. Nor have any official communiques been issued on any of the previous meetings held between Herr Scheel and several of his counterparts from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
