  • Story Text: The new United States Ambassador to Chad, Mr. Edward Mulcahy, presented his credentials to President Francois Tombalbaye last week and said he hoped for closer relations between the two countries. Mr. Tombalbaye, in reply, assured him of Chad's co-operation in working towards this goal.

    SYNOPSIS: The new United States Ambassador to Chad, Mr. Edward Mulcahy, present his credentials to President Francois Tombalbaye at a ceremony last week in the country's capital, Fort Lamy.

    Among those at the ceremony -- the Chad Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the head of the Cabinet.

    The new Ambassador, presenting his credentials, said he hoped for closer relations between Chad and the United States.

    President Tombalbaye, in reply, assured Mr. Mulcahy of Chad's co-operation in working towards closer relations because they ware based on 'similarity of conceptions' concerning the independence and sovereignty of states. "Our conception of relations between countries brings us closer together," he said.
