- Story Text: In Bangkok on Tuesday (24 October), Government officials joined in celebrations marking United Nations Day.
The Chairman of Thailand's Executive Council, Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachron, was scheduled to participate in ceremonies at the Headquarters of the United Nations Economic Mission for Asia. The programme was to combine the traditional United Nations Day observance with a special ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone for the first United Nations building in Asia.
The programme also included the reading of this year's United Nations Day message from the Secretary General Kurt Waldheim.
Thailand's Supreme Patriarch was represented by Somdej Phra Bhuttakosccharn and the ceremony was attended by officials of the Thai government, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of other United Nations offices and newsmen.
