  • Story Text: - INTRO: Old electric signs from Las Vegas's garish nightlife are to be removed from a junkyard and will soon go on display in a museum of Neon Art.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------- A collection of old, broken neon signs which 20 years ago made the reputation of Las Vegas as a city of high-risk and big-bucks, are lying in a junkyard, waiting to go on museum display.

    The signs, which used to adorn hundreds of Las Vegas's historical hotels, will go on exhibit thanks to one business firm which saved and kept them after the old hotels gave way to today's larger and more modern variety.

    The Young Electric Sign Company collected nearly all of the large neon signs and placed them in a junkyard, referred to by the locals as "the boneyard." "It was the signs that made Las Vegas famous and in Las Vegas you don't have a lot of history but here in the junkyard you can really see the past right up to the present," Young Electric's business representative Brian Poblocki said.

    "It's like a walk down memory lane," Poblocki added.

    The company plans to restore the signs to their original splendour, and place them in the soon-to-be-opened Nevada Museum of Neon Art.
