- Story Text: A 10-metre (30 foot) high statue of enigmatic pop star Michael Jackson was towed up London's River Thames on Thursday (June 15) to tie in with the release of his new album.
London's famous Tower bridge was opened to allow the statue .- one of nine touring Europe - to pass through.
Jackson's latest album, "HIStory" is released on Friday, and will be his first since "Dangerous" sold 22 million copies in 1991.
The 2,100-kg statue, made from a steel truss with fibre glass cladding, will be moored at Tower Bridge for a week before a nationwide tour. Eight other statues will be in Milan, Paris, Madrid, Prague, Zurich, Berlin, Vienna and Holland.
Jackson hit the headlines on Wednesday evening (June 14) when he and his wife Lisa Marie Presley-Jackson went on live United States (U.S.) television and declared they are a normal married couple whose love extends to the bedroom.
Two years ago Jackson's career and personal life went into a sudden, dramatic tailspin when a 12-year-old boy accused him of sexually molesting him over a four-month period. The boy's August 1993 civil lawsuit was dropped after Jackson paid a settlement estimated at between 5 and 20 million United States dollars.
Jackson has repeatedly denied the charges.
