- Story Text: Beatlemania broke out on Tuesday (November 21) in the United Kingdom as the most famous pop group in history released their first recording in 25 years.
Fans of the Fab Four flocked to record shops on the stroke of midnight to buy a copy of Beatles Anthology I, the compact disc compilation. Nearly 500 fans turned up at a store in Liverpool, the Beatles' home city.
In Liverpool visitors could see names of places and shops which had been seen everyday by The Beatles during their early days, and had inspired some of their song and album titles.
The much-heralded 60 track anthology contains new songs by John Lennon who laid down voice-tracks shortly before he was murdered in 1980. They include the track Free As A Bird, tipped to top the singles charts in Britain over Christmas.
The three remaining Beatles, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, added backing vocals.
